GEORGIA, USA – Our summer intern Phelina Styles, who is a Journalism major at Georgia State University, details her experience with Helene as it passed over Georgia last night dumping heavy rains and producing strong winds.

While Atlanta was spared the worst of the storm, many students described the uncertainty and fear they felt as they sheltered in place.

Willow Sturrup biology student says her biggest concern was the safety of the buildings.

Philena says it was her first time experiencing a hurricane away from home.

Willow says as she prepared for the storm she stepped in and carried other Bahamian students staying on campus to the grocery store to get much-needed supplies.

Both shared the cultural difference when it came to preparing for hurricanes.
