Dorian Widow Finding Closure

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The widow of a man who died during hurricane Dorian says she is starting to find peace after receiving her late husband’s death certificate. For her, it marks an important part of the process of finding closure.

Capron’s husband, James Ricardo Capron, died during the passage of Hurricane Dorian. However, he was one of dozens of victims who weren’t positively identified in the storm’s aftermath. Listed as a missing person, Capron’s family and many other families struggled with the idea of having to wait seven years to receive a death certificate.

A coroner’s inquest into Hurricane Dorian victims has provided major relief and closure, to people like Capron. After hearing evidence from witnesses, 22 victims were declared dead, including James Capron.

Less than 3 years after his death, his wife is now in possession of the death certificate.

Capron initially spoke to Our News back in May 2020 after government conducted a mass burial for 55 unidentified Hurricane Dorian victims. Capron was outraged then that she was invited to the burial. Her focus now is finding his grave. But, the death certificate does bring some financial relief, especially in assisting their son with receiving his education.

She remembers their last conversation, where James prepared for Dorian’s wrath. While she still has dreams where she believes he is there with her, his memory is permanently etched in her mind.
