Dr. Ian Strachan: After 50 Years, It May Be Time for a New Constitution

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – There have been many discussions about potential amendments to our constitution but now there’s an academic voice in the crowd, suggesting we consider rewriting our constitution altogether.

Dr. Ian Strachan, Executive Vice President and campus President at UB North responding to questions about whether The Bahamas should drop the British monarch as our head of state, saying we need to stop looking at individual issues, and consider a complete overhaul of our constitution instead.

Dr. Strachan also suggests the revisions could also determine how we elect leadership in the country.

He says with 50 years under our belts, nothing restricts us from crafting a new way forward for the next 50.
