NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Free National Movement Leader Michael Pintard is calling on the government to explain a $12.1m increase in consultancy services in the upcoming fiscal budget.

For the fiscal year 2024/2025, the Davis administration has $76.6m allocated for consultancy services.

Pintard says the opposition is suspicious about the figure.

Last year, the government only budgeted $64.4 million.

Nine government departments will see the increase: The ministries of Finance, Education, Tourism, Investments and Aviation, Labour and Public Service, Environment and Natural Resources and the Office of the Attorney General.

Other departments include the Department of Public Prosecutions, the Department of Information, Communication and Technology, the Registrar General’s Department.

Pintard is suggesting the consultants are nothing more than political hires.

Pintard feels the government should be more focused on tightening its belt and points to cutting costs on consultants as a way to do it.
