Inquest Begins Into 2021 Police Killing of Azario Major

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An inquest began on Monday into the 2021 police killing of Azario Major.

Four off-duty police officers gunned down the 31-year-old outside of Woody’s Bar on Firetrail Road on December 26, 2021 after he allegedly pointed a gun at them.

Major’s family has disputed the police officers’ account of the shooting as he had no prior run-ins with police.

Detective Sergeant 2825 Sweeting, Detective Sergeant 3039 Johnson; Detective Corporal 3726 Rolle andInspector R Saunders carried out the shooting.

They are not on trial as the inquest does not determine criminal or civil liability.
