NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Mandatory vaccinations by employers remains a hot-button issue as some workers face pressure to get the jab. Now the Director of Labour is explaining the rights of employees.

As of January 15, more than 157,000 people in The Bahamas were fully vaccinated. However, vaccine hesitancy lingers. Last April, a sushi restaurant defended a policy mandating employees get the jab by the end of June 2021.

Government officials have repeatedly said it is not mandatory for Bahamians to get vaccinated, although they have urged them to do so.

Labour Director Robert Farquharson says job seekers should set their expectations going forward.
