NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A human resources audit across the public service is due to commence at the beginning of February, according to State Minister for the Public Service Pia Glover-Rolle.

She says while there are no plans for downsizing, a full look at who is needed where is critical.

It’s a move Glover-Rolle says was needed to determine which employees in each government ministry are effective in their roles and perhaps, who is better suited elsewhere.

The audit is set to begin February 1st across the public service.

The minister insists this doesn’t mean layoffs or any “rightsizing” of the sort. However, she strongly stated the impression that one can’t be fired from a government role is wrong.

The audit is part of a 10-point plan for the public service.

There is currently a freeze on hiring within the public service, with only specific contract workers being brought on, in addition to those on the 52-week program.

Then there are promotions. Glover-Rolle says they will address the delayed promotions and also consider those who may be good candidates for promotion.
