NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 40-year-old man accused of raping a hitchhiker is behind bars.

Prosecutors say Coral Harbour resident Kennedy Ingraham sexually assaulted a 33-year-old woman on March 20.

Ingraham allegedly offered the woman a ride as she walked along Carmichael Road.

Ingraham allegedly pulled up to a home, went inside and came out with a handgun, which he allegedly used to threaten the woman before raping her.

Ingraham wasn’t required to enter a plea to the rape charge when he made his initial court appearance before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

Bail was denied and Ingraham will return to court on July 27.
