NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Drivers experienced hours-long traffic jams in western New Providence. The traffic nightmare leaving residents upset and questioning why.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic in western New Providence stretched out daily commutes – a drive that would normally take 30 minutes, lasted hours.

Traffic on Gladstone Road, John F Kennedy Drive and West Bay Street created a traffic nightmare as delegates are arriving in the capital for the 44th CARICOM Heads of Government meeting at Baha Mar over the next few days.

Police informed the media earlier this week of roadblocks on Thursday for Shirley Street and Bay Street but not for Wednesday. There was no warning about the traffic measures that would be taken around the area of the resort.

This poll was placed on the Our News Twitter page where 59 percent of the respondents said they ended up in the traffic jam, 29 percent said it was unavoidable and 12 percent said they steered clear.

Residents are optimistic officials will have a better handle on the issue come Thursday morning.
