NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The leader of the Coalition of Independents promised that he and his supporters would make an appearance with a protest during this week’s CARICOM meetings.

They made their first attempt Wednesday, despite roadblocks and heavy police presence.

COI Leader Lincoln Bain’s live broadcasting of his planned protest started from inside Baha Mar property before moving down to the roundabout leading to Baha Mar Boulevard.

Less than an hour later, Bain along with some of his supporters were taken into police custody. The rest of the protesters were ordered to move.

We caught up with the crowd after they had been shuttled to Prospect Ridge and walked to Goodman’s Bay, where the crowd was asked to move again.

One of the activists and former coalition of independents candidate for Englerston, Faith Percentie, also raised questions about the handling of some of the female protesters this morning, particularly after one woman was chased into traffic, tackled in the grass median then handcuffed and taken into custody.

But after being escorted from the area by police, some fully armed with automatic weapons, the resounding emotion from the crowd was frustration and confusion.
