NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An uptick in COVID-19 cases at a high school in Exuma has left about 20 students in quarantine, however, officials on the island says there is no need to panic.

Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville revealed yesterday that a small cluster of COVID-19 cases in Exuma as 12 individuals tested positive for the virus.

Of the 12, five cases are students from the L. N. Coakley High School in Moss Town, Exuma. Pamela Gorte, District Superintendent for the Ministry of Education in Exuma, is encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their personal health.

The district superintendent also confirming that a team sent by the Ministry of Health is on the ground to assess and ensure that necessary measures are in place to keep students safe.

She says that all of the relevant protocols have been followed to prevent the virus from spreading. Gorte says cases will be handled on an individual basis and that there is no need for Exumians to panic.
