NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The United States Embassy in Nassau is running behind schedule on the completion of its multi-million dollar compound. The project director attributing the delays to COVID-19.

Cherika Johnson reports.

The U.S Embassy’s new headquarters, which was expected to be completed early next year, will be delayed another 6-7 months due to shutdowns because of COVID-19 spread in the workforce.

Ziegenfuss says nearly 95 percent of its workforce is vaccinated which helped with milder symptoms among workers who recovered quickly.

The $310 million project, which now employs about 85 Bahamian construction workers, has experienced other hiccups as well.

Ziegenfuss promises that once the embassy is completed, it will help to revitalize Bay Street, drawing people and new businesses to the area.

The new compound will comprise recharge wells as part of its green initiative to be used again for drinking water.

The compound will be completed by September or October of next year.
