NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A formal working relationship between The Bahamas and a United States agency will help to crack down on the flow of guns across borders, according to Prime Minister Philip Davis.

Addressing the Royal Bahamas Police Force church service, Sunday, Davis explained the relationship with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agency will include sharing intelligence.

It was one of the solutions Davis says government is working on.

Davis says, “The violence in our country is a tragedy, one that tears at our soul.”

“Crime has been a very serious and chronic problem for too long – and then a succession of national crises poured gasoline on the fire.”

“Each act of violence has a ripple effect in our families, in our churches, and in our wider communities,” the PM added.

“I talk to parents nearly every day who are afraid, afraid their children will be the victims, or in some cases perpetrators, of violence.”

Prime Minister Davis says: “You deserve the resources, manpower, training, and technology you need to enforce the law.

You deserve a government and a private sector working together to create opportunities and paths out of need and despair.

You deserve a health care system that can address mental health breakdowns.

You deserve communities in which mentors and role models are plentiful and dedicated.

You deserve a legal system that delivers justice and delivers it swiftly.

You deserve prisons that rehabilitate, in the truest sense of that word”.

Prime Minister Davis end his remarks by thanking officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force for their service.

He says, “Thank you for all that you do for your country. I pray that you stay safe in the conduct of your duties, and may God continue to bless you and keep you forever in his grace”.
