NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An 18-year-old resident of New Providence who did not want to be seen on camera for safety reasons is sharing her candid story with Our News about citizenship.

She was born here in The Bahamas, her mother is a foreign woman who died when she was only five years old but her father is a Bahamian citizen. However, at the time of her birth, her father was not in the country.

As a result he signed an affidavit and a DNA test was performed which this resident claim was submitted.

Due to the recent citizenship ruling passed by the privy council last year she says, she’s is a Bahamian.

The young woman is also an aspiring college student but due to not having the necessary documents, like a passport she is not eligible for enrollment

Back in February of this year, Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville confirmed government signed off on a new DNA testing protocol to verify citizenship status.

But despite this, the young woman says nothing has been done and it’s a painful feeling.

She says the load is on her father and she want’s to help him financially by getting a job.

The 18-year-old shares why she’s intimidated to show her face.
