NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Residents are sounding off on a proposed sugar tax.

Despite Prime Minister Philip Davis assurance that there will be no sugar tax soon, residents are weighing in over the possibility of it coming to fruition in the future.

When asked if he supports a proposed sugar tax, Brent Williamson says he endorses anything that contributes to the wellbeing of society.

In a local daily, Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville says that the tax would not be a revenue-generating tool.

Tinicia Young sharing that while the tax would work, there are better ways for government to collect revenue.

One resident says that focus should be placed on monitoring school meals as opposed to taxation.

While another resident says educating people instead of taxing may be the answer.
