NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In an effort to improve access to justice, a U.S. based company for the record installed its digital court recording system, which allows for live transcriptions and speech-to-text technology.

Service engineering manager Keaton Stacks explains the parameters of this system.

The system makes the process easier and quicker which ultimately assists with speeding up the service of justice.

It also allows members of the public to have quicker access to court proceedings but could our Bahamian dialect impact the recording system?

Stacks says the AI model that operates the system is trained against different dialects.

For The Record has been working with the judiciary since 2017 when the first digital court project was launched here in The Bahamas.

In the era of hacking, Stacks explains the cloud service has never had a security breach.

“The transcription that is happening from the record is all stored to a cloud system thats inaccessible to anybody but the judiciary without very explicit access being granted,” he said.

“This cloud service is something that is custom-built in house by for the record so it is something that has never had a security breach and we at for the record never had a security breach. So it’s something that gives our customer that confidence that it is a secured platform.”
