NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Strong winds and high seas creating a bit of a mess on West Bay Street earlier this week as sand covered miles of roads, slowing down and impeding the smooth flow of traffic.

Teams from the Ministry of Works were out and about earlier this week. Their mission? Undertaking the task of making the roads safe and passable for the motoring public.

The work stretched on for miles, covering the roads and parking areas near to the sea wall.

Members with heavy equipment and shovels making a significant impact as piles and piles of sand were removed from the roads often working as traffic continued to flow.

The sand, after hours of work, eventually returned to its rightful spot on the beach.

The Ministry of Works posting on its Facebook page that the sand erosion which was exacerbated by rising sea levels due to increased storm activity in the tropics. 

When storm surges deposit large quantities of sand onto roads, prompt removal becomes essential to restore normalcy. 

Now you are reminded, that if you are traversing the streets and see a crew of workmen, you are reminded to drive slowly and with due care and attention.
