Smith described the moment as a humbling one as he thanked his supporters for their vote of confidence.
Both the prime minister and deputy prime minister expressed their overwhelming support for Smith as he now seeks to carry on the work of late parliamentarian, Obie Wilchcombe.
Party supporters enjoying the moment with the newly elected representative. They say they believe the right person for the job was chosen and they look forward to the work he’s about to undertake.
