The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic hardship, are said to be some of the main causes of a rise in child abandonment in the country.

Social Services and Urban Development Minister Obie Wilchcombe says the sad reality is that children are being left behind and more children are becoming wards of the state.

Minister Wilchcombe says the numbers are even higher on Grand Bahama.

He adds that his ministry has developed an aggressive public relations approach to raise awareness among parents and the wider community.
