NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Parents of students at the Moore’s Island All-age School keeping their kids home from school, in protest of a severe teacher shortage on the island. Now, they’ve reached a boiling point.

Empty classrooms and chairs stacked on top of desks at the Moore’s Island all-age school as parents protest a teacher shortage on the island.

PTA President Angel Riley Davis says the children of Moore’s Island are being put at a disadvantage.

PTA Vice President, Felecia Hield says there are currently three high school teachers for grades 7 through 12, and the fourth grade has no teacher at all, leaving fourth and fifth grade students in a combined class.

Now, the parents fear that without teachers in core subjects, the school’s 180 students are being left behind.

Davis and Hield say the Moore’s Island children deserve the same treatment and quality of education as other students around The Bahamas.
