THE BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history on October 3rd, 2012, the Free National Movement’s North Andros candidate for the 2012 bi-election came under fire after admitting he declared love offerings from churches as his salary.

Greg Gomez was named the North Abaco candidate after former prime minister Hubert Ingraham resigned his post following the FNM’s election defeat in 2012.

Commenting on the controversy, former PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts dubbed Gomez a mystery candidate.

Fast forward to 2018 former Mortgage Corporation Chairman Dr. Duane Sands revealed the BMC was owed millions.

Sands told Parliament there was a delinquency rate of more than 40 percent. It came after the Ministry of Housing at the time evicted several homeowners the week before.

Then in 2020, health officials revealed the second wave of COVID-19 was impacting more young people than any other age category.

At the time there were 4,332 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in March of that year.
