GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Two American women, seen on several international media outlets, claimed they were raped while visiting a local excursion company in Grand Bahama, the stop, a part of their Carnival Elation Cruise.
The women claim they were offered a two-for-one drink, but fell ill immediately.
The best friends who are mothers allege that they lost consciousness after the drinks and were sexually assaulted by staff of the excursion company, a statement from the company, Pirates Cove Zipline and Water Park was released Thursday.
The company says they regret that their guest experienced this incident and they are providing police with evidence which includes surveillance video from 16 cameras.
Our News also understands the surveillance shows conflicting accounts of what the victims claim.
A source gave details of that video, claiming the interaction was consensual.
The statement also confirmed that the two men involved in the incident have been terminated as the behavior seen on tape by management indicated that at a minimum they violated the company’s zero-tolerance policy towards fraternizing.
A police statement revealed that emergency medical services offered medical help, which they declined and signed a waiver before leaving for their cruise ship in a private vehicle. The company’s statement confirms this as well.
Now police also confirmed officers boarded the cruise ship and provided a sexual assault kit and hospital form to the ship’s medical doctor and obtained signed statements from the victims.
The FBI is also working along with the Bahamian authorities in this matter.
Despite the intense media attention and pressure for more information Thursday, police gave no additional details when pressed
Carnival Cruise Lines also issued a statement confirming while in Freeport on an independent shore excursion, two guests reported that they were sexually assaulted while at a local beach.
They say their onboard care team provided support for the two guests as they sailed back to Jacksonville.
