WORLDWIDE – Intimate partner and family-related killings remain the deadliest form of violence for women, with approximately 51,100 women and girls killed in 2023, up from 48,800 the year before, according to a new report from UN women and the U.N. office on drugs and crime.

On average, 140 women and girls were killed per day by a family member or intimate partner last year.

Africa saw the highest rates of such killings, followed by the Americas and Oceania.

Despite global efforts to curb violence, killings of women remain alarmingly high, often resulting from ongoing gender-based violence.

The report emphasizes that these deaths are preventable through timely intervention.
