US: Russian Fighter Jet Hits American Drone

USA – The United States military says a Russian jet fighter has collided with a US drone causing it to crash into the Black Sea.

It says the drone was on a routine mission in international airspace when two Russian jets tried to intercept it.

The US European command says the crash was the result of an “unprofessional act by the Russians”.

The Russian defense ministry denied coming into contact with the drone in a statement on Tuesday, saying fighter jets “scrambled to identify the intruder” after detecting it over the Black Sea, adding that the drone “went into an unguided flight with a loss of altitude.”

Tuesday’s incident appeared to mark the first time since the height of the cold war that a U.S. aircraft was brought down after being hit by a Russian warplane.
