NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The World Health Organization is issuing new guidance on popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, saying they should be used long term and only as part of a structured treatment plan for obesity.

The recommendations cover medications like Wegovy and others, and stress that obesity is a chronic disease that requires lifelong care.

The W.H.O. warns that high cost, limited supply and uneven access remain major challenges, and says countries must build fair pathways so those with the greatest medical need get treatment first.

Global obesity is expected to hit two billion people by 2030.
