NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While Hurricane Nicole swept through Grand Bahama and Abaco leaving behind minimal destruction – the northern islands have not always been so fortunate. Today, many continue to feel the impact of Hurricane Dorian some three years later, and are still rebuilding their lives. One Grand Bahama resident says there’s still much to be grateful for.

Harold Newton has been living in West End Grand Bahama for more than 50 years, having witnessed many storms come and go through his community.

He says while Hurricane Nicole posed very little threat to most homes on the western end, storms before were not as merciful leaving behind much devastation.

He believes the construction of a new sea wall will be beneficial in helping to protect the small fishing community from the serious impacts of future natural disasters.
