NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Every year on April 28th, the International Labour Organization celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at work. 

This year the Department of Labour took the message of safety in the work place to the Mall at Marathon.

Labour and Immigration Minister Keith Bell stressing the importance of continuously promoting and ensuring that a safe and healthy work environment is created for all employees.

 And for those working on construction sites, he says safety is the number one priority.

Now according to the Health and Safety Act Section 22, it is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that once there are 20 or more employees a health and safety committee must be in place.

Senior Safety Officer at the Department of Labour Sharan Moss says one of their daily roles is to ensure that safety practices are being implemented throughout the various work places.
