NASSAU, BAHAMAS – 58 students have gotten some much needed assistance for the 2022/2023 academic school year from the Lyford Cay Foundations’ Scholarship Program.

Our Megan Shepherd speaks with the Executive Director who tells us they received a record number of applications for the stem program.

Executive Director of the Lyford Cay Foundations, Nicola Virgill-Rolle says many of the students are first generation college students.

Virgill-Rolle says they also have a program called focus, which is an 8-year enrichment program for students in public schools.

13 students are from New Providence, 11 from Grand Bahama and one is from Abaco.

The effects of hurricane Dorian and the covid 19 pandemic has disrupted the lives of many students, a factor when it comes to selecting their future areas of study and career paths.

The Executive Director is also extending her appreciation to donors.

Virgill-Rolle says she truly stepped up for the community post hurricane Dorian and then the pandemic.

The application process reopens in February 2023.
