ANDROS, BAHAMAS – Cheers were heard from the crowd as winners were announced at the Tourism Development Corporation’s two-day venture pitch competition, held in North and Central Andros on October 23rd and 24th.

The event brought energy and excitement to the island as local entrepreneurs pitched their innovative tourism ideas for a chance to win funding and mentorship from the corporation.

TDC Director, Steven Johnson, boasted on the impact of the pitch thus far.

Before taking the stage, contestants completed a two-week training program through the University of The Bahamas, where they learned about business ethics, finance, and how to effectively present and pitch their ideas.

During night one in North Andros, the lucky first, second and third place winners walked away with $10 thousand, $8 thousand, and $6 thousand respectively – furthering their business ventures.

Meanwhile, night two of the competition, which was held at the Andros Lighthouse Yacht Club in Central Andros, brought a new set of winners.

Tourism Minister Chester Cooper says the initiative is a crucial part of the government’s push to get more Bahamians involved in tourism entrepreneurship, especially across the family islands.

TDC is set to travel to Inauga next.
