CHILE – Team Bahamas has opened training camp in Chile as the national team prepares for the second window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
The camp will also include a friendly against the Chilean national team, providing the Bahamians with an important competitive test before the qualifying games.
The squad features NBA-experienced Buddy Hield, Eric Gordon and Kai Jones, along with Isaiah Mobley, Franco Miller, Domnick Bridgewater, Romad Dean, Jacob Hanna, Sammy Hunter and Jaraun Burrows.
VJ Edgecombe will join the team in Uruguay, adding the Philadelphia 76ers rookie to the group for the second window.
Head Coach Mikhail McLean will be assisted by Robert Byrd, Willis Mackey Jr., Mychel Thompson and Jordan Walker.
With the Chile friendly serving as a tune-up, Team Bahamas will look to use the camp to build chemistry and sharpen its game plan ahead of the qualifying window.
Goodwill Games Swimmers Return to Grand Bahama
The Grand Bahama swimming community is welcoming home members of Team Bahamas following another dominant performance at the Goodwill Swimming Championships in Trinidad and Tobago.
Team Bahamas captured its fourth consecutive Goodwill title, finishing the three-day championships with a meet-best 1,459-and-a-half points.
Host Trinidad and Tobago finished second with 1,269 points, while Jamaica was third with 1,007.
The Bahamian team led from start to finish, capping another successful campaign for the country’s young swimmers.
Now, members of the team from Grand Bahama are back home, bringing their experience from the international stage back to the local swimming community.
The homecoming also provides an opportunity to recognize the work behind the medals – from the swimmers and coaches to the families and programmes that continue to develop Bahamian aquatics.
Adderley, Miller Adjust to Single-A
Two bahamian baseball prospects are continuing their progression through professional baseball, with Bohan Adderley and Janero Miller both making the jump to single-A this season.
Adderley, an outfielder in the New York Mets Organization, was promoted to the St. Lucie Mets, while left-handed pitcher Janero Miller moved up to the Jupiter Hammerheads, Miami’s Single-A affiliate.
However, the two Bahamians didn’t have to wait long to share the same field.
St. Lucie and Jupiter met for a six-game series from August 11-16 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, with Jupiter winning five of the six games.
Adderley had one of his better games of the series on August 13, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in St. Lucie’s 7-2 victory.
Miller, meanwhile, was part of Jupiter’s pitching staff throughout the series and started the August 16 finale, earning the win as the Hammerheads defeated St. Lucie 7-3.
Miller has also produced his best single-A appearance with a three-strikeout outing, showing the swing-and-miss ability that helped the Marlins move him up the ladder.
For Adderley and Miller, the significance goes beyond one series, the path to the big leagues continues.
