UNITED STATES – ABC has taken a major step in its conflict with the Trump administration by filing a lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), on first amendment grounds.

The network claims that the agency’s demand for an early review of its broadcast licenses poses an “existential threat” to its operations.

In the lawsuit, ABC, along with parent company Disney and eight ABC-owned stations, seeks a federal court to halt the early renewal proceedings.

This move follows an April order from the FCC, headed by Chairman Brendan Carr, who is a known ally of President Trump, to review ABC’s licenses years before their expiration.

The FCC cited diversity and inclusion practices as the reason for this unusual action, which came just after a joke from ABC’s late-night host, jimmy kimmel, infuriated the president, who has called for kimmel’s firing.
