BPSU Threatens Industrial Action

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Public Hospital Authority, the Airport Authority, and Social Services are among a few government agencies that could see a disruption in service in coming days as the Bahamas Public Services Union is hinting at industrial unrest.

The union claims the government is stalling on negotiations.

According to Union President Kimsley Ferguson, the union reached out to the various government agencies to decide on a date to sign the industrial agreement, including Public Service Minister Fred Mitchell.

But according to Ferguson, the union hasn’t gotten a response.

The ministry of the public service released a press statement on November 10, saying a proposal was sent to the BPSU, but that the union did not respond.

It added the lack of communication has caused a delay in the projected rollout of salary increases.

We asked Ferguson if the union is pleased with what the government is proposing – to that he says it’s a step in the right direction.
