Migration Main Contributor to Population Increase

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas seeing a near 14% increase in its population, according to data from the National Census and the main source of the increase is due to migration. 

The preliminary results from the National Census are in and the data reveals the overall population jumped to 399,314. A 13.6% increase when compared to 2010.  

But as Bahamas National Statistical Institute Assistant Director Kim Saunders explains the increase is due to migration. 

Saunders says the data reveals that over the last two decades it seems there are fewer children being born but more deaths. 

The senses also revealed a decrease in the average household size of 3.38 percent.

There was a 20.38% increase in the population in New Providence while islands like Abaco and Grand Bahama saw a decrease in their population.
