Conviction Upheld for Man Who Pointed Gun at Police

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who was shot by police after he allegedly pointed a loaded gun at them has lost a challenge to his three-year sentence at the Court of Appeal.


Jason Ferguson was convicted of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition with intent to supply and possession of a firearm to put another in fear.


On December 18, 2020, a police unit went to the area of Comfort Street and Woods Alley to investigate rapid gunfire.


When the officers arrived, they saw a man, identified as Ferguson, holding a gun with an extended magazine.


As the officers approached, Ferguson allegedly pointed his gun at the officers, putting them in fear.


As a result, they opened fire and shot Ferguson multiple times.


After he was shot, Ferguson threw the gun into a church’s yard.


The gun was recovered, and Ferguson was taken to hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.
