Sentence Cut for Hit and Run Driver

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An unlicensed and uninsured driver who killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run has had her sentence reduced on appeal.

Nail technician Altanease Rolle pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in the February 14, 2022 death of Sandy Rolle.

He was walking along JFK Drive around 4am when he was hit by Rolle, who failed to stop.

She was sentenced to three years and six months and ordered to pay $10,000 in compensation to the victim’s family last August.

Rolle appealed the sentence and compensation orders on the basis that they were unduly harsh.

The Court of Appeal agreed and reduced Rolle’s sentence to two years in prison.

The compensation order, which is due by August 31, 2027, was cut to $10,000.
