HAITI – The United States and Ecuador have circulated a draft resolution at the U.N. proposing a peacekeeping mission to replace the Kenya-led operation currently assisting Haitian police in addressing gang violence.

However, many Haitians said to remain wary due to past U.N. involvement, including the Cholera outbreak linked to peacekeepers.

Since June, around 400 Kenyan officers have been deployed, with the mission expected to grow to 2,500 personnel from multiple countries.

U.S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken reaffirmed U.S. support and highlighted a funding gap for the Kenyan-led force, which relies on voluntary contributions.
