PHILADELPHIA, U.S.A. – The longest active NBA playoff drought is finally over, Buddy Hield is headed to the postseason.

Hield and the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Miami Heat 105-104 Wednesday night in the Sofi Play-In-Tournament at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Hield finished with seven points and six assists in 18 minutes off the bench.

He was also an integral part of a third-quarter rally that saw the 76ers erase a 12-point halftime deficit.

Tennis

The Jr. Davis Cup Team took on Canada in their opening matchup in Orlando.

The trio of Jackson Mactaggart, Jerald Carroll, and William McCartney all saw action on the court Wednesday in the match up.

Mactaggart fell in his match 6-2, 6-4, with Carroll also falling in his match 6-3, 6 -3.

Carroll and McCartney teamed up in doubles, but lost the match 6-3. 6-2.

Canada won the tie three matches to none. 

The Bahamas looks to rebound against the USA in the next tie.

Minor League Baseball

Chavez Young and Adari Grant have been productive early on in their new assignments for the 2024 season.

Young finished 2-4, with a run scored and a stolen base yesterday in his Nashville Sounds 6-5 win in extra innings over the Omaha Storm Chasers.

On the defensive side, Young had the highlight of the game for the sounds with his throw from the right field corner that beat Brian O’Keefe trying to stretch out a double at second base.

In his first season as a Milwaukee Brewers prospect, Young is hitting .219 with 3 RBI, 2 stolen bases and a .587 ops.

As for Grant, it’s been a seamless transition to single a baseball with the Palm Beach Cardinals.

He went 1-4 with an rbi in yesterday’s 7-6 loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

Through six games, the St. Louis Cardinals prospect is hitting .429 with four RBI, 2 stolen bases and a staggering 1.1000 ops.
