NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former policeman who seriously injured a woman during an altercation has taken a plea deal.

Twenty-two-year-old Devaughn Curtis was fired following the October 25, 2025 incident at The Bay Restaurant and Hookah Lounge that left Brittany Marshall with serious head injuries.

Curtis was manning the door at the restaurant when a heated verbal exchange between him and Marshall turned violent.

Curtis, who was initially charged with causing grievous harm, pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of causing harm when he appeared before Magistrate Abigail Farrington.

He will pay $7,000 in compensation his victim, attend anger management classes and complete six months of probation.

Curtis told his victim that he was sorry for what happened. She accepted his apology.

Defense lawyer Bjorn Ferguson told the court that alcohol affected the behavior of Curtis and his victim.
