GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) refuting claims by the government that the Grand Bahama owes them $357 million.

The GBPA warned of the detrimental effects of these events on the Freeport economy and investor confidence.

Government responding to the GBPA on Sunday evening saying after working with an international accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the government has prepared and presented a detailed review of the amounts owed and other issues wich pertain to the port authority including the best path forward will be addressed comprehensively.

Grand Bahama real estate agent Dwayne King says it’s a lot of infighting that has hindered the growth of Freeport while publisher and editor of the Grand Bahama News Courier Fred Sturrup says the situation is disheartening.

They say it’s never good when investors see this type of activity.

Attorney Regin Johnson supports government in their move against the port authority. She says the government has given the GBPA ample time to pay what is owed to the country.

She called out previous administrations for not taking the same approach toward the GBPA and hopes that this action ends in a friendly way.
