HAITI – Haitian authorities have confirmed they’ll maintain February 7th 2026 as the target date for the inauguration of a newly elected president.

That’s according to the Organization of American states and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

The Washington-based OAS said it continues its work to assist Haiti in developing the “enabling legal framework” for its next general elections. The Venice Commission is the Council of Europe’s advisory body on constitutional matters.

Gang violence in Haiti has escalated since former Prime Minster Ariel Henry was locked out of the country earlier this year sparking the appointment of a transitional council to lead the country.
