GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Family, friends, and the creative community gathered at Freeport Bible Church to celebrate the life of Gea Pierre, a renowned playwright, poet, and spoken word performer. Pierre’s legacy in Bahamian theatre is marked by her fearless storytelling and stage productions that began in Grand Bahama and later made their way to the capital.

“Grand Bahama has lost one of the greatest playwrights, poets, and spoken word performers in the history of the country.”

Her aunt, Verona Missick, shared memories of Pierre’s early days as a student, writing plays and performing at the National Arts Festival. Missick highlighted Pierre’s compassion and dedication to addressing relevant societal issues through her work.

“I remember when she was in school she used to write plays and perform at the national arts festival, and from there she went on to writing plays and producing and acting but more importantly than being creative she was compassionate and she spoke to issues that were relevant to the times.”
