NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An INTERPOL red notice has been issued for an accused killer who is on the run from Bahamian authorities. The notice was issued on February 7th, and is an upgrade in the fugitive’s status.

Jared Higgs has more.

Police confirmed to Our News that an Interpol red notice has been issued for Kenrick Hanna, also known as BJ Bowe, and will be widely circulated in the coming days.

In December 2019, Hanna, who is now 32, was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, 30-year-old Monet Darville. The Grand Bahama woman was stabbed to death in her apartment in South Bahamia.

A red notice puts police forces around the world on alert for fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence. A red notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

Darville’s cousin, Owen Rolle, has long sounded the alarm on Hanna’s breach of bail, which took place in August 2020, and included him tampering with and disposing of his ankle bracelet.

The red notice put out will include Hanna’s fingerprints and a passport photo. Darville’s family is relieved, as they felt for a long time that not enough attention was being paid to the matter.

Sources familiar with Hanna’s bail conditions tell us he absconded to either Canada or Jamaica. Interpol also thinks he could be in the United States, or Haiti. His suretors have paid the court $9,000 of the $25,000 bail that was set. Hanna, who jumped from a second-story balcony before he was arrested back in 2019, would show up to court in a wheelchair, but could reportedly manage to walk.

The case highlighted a lack of cohesion between the agencies responsible for capturing Hanna. Our News has followed the story since October 2020, two months after Hanna breached his bail conditions. It has taken nearly 18 months for this Interpol red notice to be issued.
