Jazz Chisholm Holds Record for Most Home Runs Hit By A Bahamian

USA – Jazz Chisholm set the record for the most Major League home runs by a Bahamian last night as he launched a 3-run long ball in the Miami Marlins’ 11-3 route of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jazz wrapped a moonshot around the right field pole in the 4th inning to put the Marlins up 10-1.

It was the 46th in his four-year career, passing the total of 45 that Andre Rodgers, the first Bahamian to ever play in the Majors, hit in his decade-long career spanning 1957-1967.

Jazz’s home run came in the midst of a power surge for the Marlins who hit 5 combined in the game, doing it for the first time since 2012.

They came out of the gate swinging with Jorge Soler hitting a lead-off homer to get things started. He added another in the third inning.

 Jazz’s home run was the straw that opened the camel’s back for pitcher Tony Gonsolin, who gave up all five long balls. He was pulled from the game after that.

Jazz also showed great awareness in the outfield, recording an outfield assist on a catch that he scooped in the outfield. Although he didn’t make the catch, he kept his wits about him and got the assist on the force play at 2nd base. 

Jazz and the Marlins’ series against the Dodgers continues this afternoon.
