NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A jury was selected to hear evidence concerning tour boat explosion that left an American tourist dead and injured five others in 2018. 

Clayton Patterson Smith, the owner of Four C’s Adventures, which organizes boat trips in the Exuma Cays, and his captain Roderick Watson, are accused of criminal negligence concerning the June 30 tragedy.

Smith and Watson are accused of manslaughter by negligence in the death of Maleka Jackson.

Watson alone is charged with negligently causing harm to Tiran Jackson, Stacy Bender, Paul Bender, and Stephanie Schaffer.

And Smith is accused of negligently endangering the passengers of the vessel by using inferior materials in its construction.

Smith and Jackson have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The nine-member jury will begin hearing evidence in the case on Tuesday.

The defendants are represented by Murrio Ducille KC.
