NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Mako Aquatics Head Coach Travano McPhee spoke confidently about his swimmers and how they look heading to the 53rd Annual National Swimming Championships which begin on Thursday.

We caught up with the club  recently at their morning practice at the Betty Kelly Kenning Aquatics Center and their home pool in Palmdale at the old Evolve gym.

And as Coach McPhee tells us, they know they have a target on their backs but they’re going for their seventh straight title.

Last year, mako won the meet with 2,920 points and coach shares some key factors which contribute to their swimmIng success.

“Staying hydrated, staying cool and warming down, the recovery phase is very important in a four day meet and it shows which swimmers do a good job on the fourth day,” he said.

“A lot of swimmers are fatigued, tired. The ones who really do a good job on the first three days recovering, making sure their diet is populated really they do a good job on the fourth day.”

And his final thoughts?

“I encourage all swimmers from all clubs to do their best, enjoy this time,” Coach Travano said.

“These swimmers have worked hard all year and they’re able to showcase their hard work has done over the years and the parents – the parents who endure the early mornings, the late nights at the pool, they’re really able to see what their kids have worked for all year.”

The championships begin tomorrow with the opening ceremonies slated for Friday evening at 5:30pm.
