FRANCE – In a case that has shocked France, a 72-year-old French woman testified in court Thursday about discovering she had been drugged and raped by numerous men, including her husband of 50 years.

Gisèle Pélicot waived her right to anonymity to confront the 51 accused, saying she speaks for all women who have been drugged and abused.

Her husband, Dominique, allegedly filmed the rapes and invited men via sex-chat websites to participate, with police uncovering around 200 incidents over nearly a decade.

Many defendants deny rape, claiming they thought the acts were consensual.

The trial, which opened on Monday, is set to last until December and will not be held behind closed doors.

They all face up to 20 years in jail, if found guilty.
