NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Funeral home directors are raising serious concerns, claiming they haven’t been paid in months for body removal services at crime scenes.

Some are even threatening to withdraw their services from late-night crime scenes altogether.

Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe is now addressing the issue, promising to investigate allegations of unpaid bills and questions about the fair distribution of work.

He responds to allegations made by some funeral directors who claim they haven’t been paid since may 2024.

Munroe says he was made aware of the complaints through Whatsapp messages.

However, he clarified that the Ministry of National Security does not directly manage the police force’s recurrent budget.

But there was one allegation that stood out to him – a claim that a funeral home is owed a $40,000.

But Munroe points out that this figure raises serious questions as funeral home are placed on rotation when collecting bodies from crime scenes.

The minister also insisted if one provider is being called out of rotation repeatedly, it could explain the disparity.

As the matter unfolds, all eyes will be on how this impacts the relationship between the police funeral homes who are called to scenes.
