NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Free National Movement Leader Michael Pintard offered a brief but pointed response following Wednesday’s Speech from the Throne.

Inside a packed senate chamber filled with newly sworn-in Parliamentarians, dignitaries and supporters, Governor General Dame Cynthia Pratt delivered a more than 20-minute address setting out the Davis administration’s legislative agenda for the months ahead.

The speech covered a wide range of issues impacting Bahamians, including the cost of living, energy reform, education, family island development, immigration, and healthcare.

However, while the government painted an ambitious picture of its plans, the opposition leader says it wants to see results.

Also, newly appointed FNM senator Arinthia Komolafe says the success of the government’s agenda will depend on whether the promises made are actually followed through.

The Speech from the Throne also highlighted plans for the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act and the establishment of a FOIA committee, along with stricter immigration laws and enforcement measures.

Komolafe adds that immigration reform remains a major issue that must be addressed.
