NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Vaccination week is celebrated every year in the month of April.

This year’s focus, according to the Pan American Health Organization country representative for The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos, Dr. Eldonna Boisson, is to get children caught up on all of the vaccines they may have missed during the COVID pandemic.

And while you may not come face to face with these diseases on a daily basis, Dr. Boisson says they are very much still present in other countries.

And as a tourist destination, residents must be up to date with their immunizations.

Expanded program on Immunization Manager in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Nurse Gina Rose, noting the annual goal is to have at least 95 percent of children in the population vaccinated against certain diseases however, in recent years, the mark has been missed.
