NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Two men are behind bars after being accused of murder.

Prosecutors say Malik Smith, 20, and Gamaliel Gray, 31, are responsible for the January 2 murder of Gerard Coakley.

According to police, Coakley was outside his home on Datura Avenue in South Beach when he was approached by two gunmen who chased him inside his home.

Coakley reportedly exchanged gunfire with the gunman. However, he was fatally shot.

Smith and Gray didn’t have to enter pleas to the charges when they stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.

Bail was denied and they’re scheduled to return to court on May 22 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
